No Place, No Publisher, 1915. Manuscript. Hardback. Very good condition. Manuscript translation for nine of Ewers tales. As far as I'm aware, none of his tales had been published in English prior to 1915, though translations had been made it seems. Some of the tales herein were printed in translation by Heron Press in 1930, though the text differs from the present manuscript suggesting a different translator. The nine tales here translated are: (1) Tomato Sauce (2) The Box of Counters (3) The End of John Hamilton Llewllyn (4) The Last Wish of Stanislawa d'Aspe (5) The Spider (6) The Blue Indians (7) The Tophar Bride (8) The Mamaloi (9) The White Maiden. All nine pieces appeared prior to 1915 in German collections (Das Grauen and Die Besessenen). Presumably the present translations never made it to print, but they likely represent the earliest known translations of at least some of these tales, if not any English translations of Ewers - though I can't be certain; there's a chance that some were printed in magazines. Note though that Ewers is not mentioned within the manuscript, though the stories are clearly his. Casebound, 624pp, rectos only, ink. 170mm x 213mm. Some tanning to the leaves with the early leaves chipped. [10595, Hyraxia Books].
