London, Sampson, Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1883. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A good copy. The first work of fiction to feature the canals of Mars, first postulated six years earlier by Schiaparelli [Crossley, 2011, Mars and Utopia] An uncommon book, this is the only copy we've traced. A very grubby copy, seemingly having been read previously by the enginemen of a steam train or perhaps a team of oil frackers. Internally pretty neat and clean; I guess it was just handed round and never actually read. [10770, Hyraxia Books].
