London, Jarrold & Sons, 1925. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A very good copy. "...partly in the mode of a house party mystery story, partly in the manner of the early H. G. Wells...The narrator, who is staying with friends on Dartmoor, loses his way in a heavy fog and is forced to spend most of the night on the treacherous moor. His uneasiness at being lost, however, is less than his panic when he sees overhead, in the clouds, a gigantic human face accompanied by squiggly lines" [Bleiler, Early Years, p1381]. A few nicks here and there, and a couple of short tears, the longest around 20mm. A little rolling and bumping to the tips and corners, indentation to the spine just above the head of the leftmost figure. A little bumping to the tips, but a nice copy overall.
