George Griffith (1857-1906) was one of the leading voices in contemporary science fiction / scientific romance, particularly in the future war subgenre. He first found success with The Angel of the Revolution which was the most popular work of science fiction at the time until the Time Machine toppled it. Largely forgotten nowadays, as his work doesn't always stand up to modern military advancements, he was however one of the first English writers to make a full-time living from science fiction.
