Boston, John W. Luce & Co., 1919. First Edition. Later Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. 14 stories mostly fantasy. There are some notes online about first impressions requiring a 'D' watermark, but I can find no further reference to this. That said, Luce apparently should have the same date on both sides of the title page. The present copy has no date on the recto, suggesting a later impression. Chipping to the corners and spine tips, and a little toning to the spine. A nice copy. Lord Dunsany (1878-1957) was a prolific writer and one of the architects of what has now cemented itself as the fantasy genre. His work, along with Eddison, Macdonald and Morris, was key in creating the channels from folklore and mythology to entirely synthetic secondary worlds. Illustrations by S.H. Sime [11807, Hyraxia Books].
