Geo. C. Foster - Awakening - Chapman & Hall, 1932, First Edition.
London, Chapman & Hall, 1932. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A good copy, in a near fine jacket. A lovely jacket. Uncommon. Blurb from the flap: "...a young man, who fell in the war in 1918, could come back to the England of to-day, how would it all strike him? Would he be glad to have awakened, or would he beg, like the hero of the old ballad, 'let me sleep again'? Such, at any rate, was the awakening of John Seyland. He was knocked out in the great attack of the spring of 1918, and reported 'missing, believed killed.' But he was only in a state of suspended animation, and he returned to consciousness and life in the summer of 1931. What he made of it all is the theme of Mr. Foster's extraordinary story- sometimes romantic, sometimes realistic, often daring, but never for a moment dull. And the conclusion of the whole matter is that space and time alike are subject to the indomitable spirit of man; that lives appear to end, but Life goes on, inscrutable, ineluctable and sure." The jacket has a few tears and nicks but is largely in excellent shape, and presents very well. Large tear, around 50mm, to the rear. Some creasing to the flaps. The boards are very mottled unfortunately, seems to be a reaction of some sorts to the boards. Thankfully, the jacket's lovely. [11908, Hyraxia Books].
