London, Chapman & Hall, 1885. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A good copy. Complete in two volumes. An important work in the occult canon. "Fantasy and the supernatural which to some extent forms a vehicle for the author's theories of esoteric Buddhism; this sort of book exemplified by Bulwer-Lytton's Zanoni, can be regarded as having some bearing upon the evolution of science fiction" [Locke, Spectrum I:199]. Books a little worse for wear, some bumping to the spine tips and corners, a reading lean, owner's inscription to the upper boards of both volumes and a sticker for Strathfield Saye House. A little staining to the leaves, and an ownership inscription to each volume. Strathfield Saye House (or Stratfield) was the home of the Dukes of Wellington. The ownership inscription is odd, with the surname seeming to read [???] Ellington[s?], perhaps someone can elucidate. Of course, the Dukes of Wellington weren't named Wellington, nor Ellington, so the ownership is a little mystery, for you to solve. I'm bored of delving into the family trees of the aristocracy.
