London, Megaw, 1938. Proof. Hardback. A near fine copy. An unusual state, seeminlg an advance copy. The book is offered with a letter from the author and a note from a later owner. The book differs from the published first edition insofar as it has no sticker on the upper board, and a paper jacket. The paper jacket could be later, as a section of the glassine is tipped in at the front of the book, complete with ink transfer from the handwritten title on the upper board. The letter is 5pp written in a secretary's hand with a few lines in the author's hand at the end, and her signature. It is addressed to John Gideon Wilson, of Bumpus booksellers and outlines print numbers etc. for the present book. The book itself is a short future history outlining a dystopian post-WWII world.
