London, Hutchinson, nd [1927]. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A very good copy in a near fine jacket. A lost race novel set in China (the author was a missionary and serviceman stationed in China) "...a secret City is discovered, ruled by a 'deity' and defended by an army of apes. Emily Farrar, searching for her lost fianc? in this mysterious region, enamours the deity, who proposes. She refuses." [JA/MA SFE]. 16pp ads to the rear. 7/6 on the spine. Uncommon. Some wear to the jacket edges and a little rubbing, A couple of short tears, the longest no longer than 10mm. A very nice jacket. The book's a touch foxed with some bumping to the spine tips and corners. Owner's inscription to the front pastedown. Probably a marriage. A lovely copy overall. Illustrations by Laurence East [12388, Hyraxia Books].
