Oxford, Oxford University Press, 1954. Hardback first edition and first impression. The book and jacket are near fine. The book has some offsetting to the ffep - similar offsetting to the rear. The jacket is near fine with two neat closed tears and a small nick to one of the creases. A nice copy. A difficult book for those not already familiar with the sixteenth century literary and socio-political landscapes, so much so that Lewis purportedly referred to the book as "Oh Hell", (OHEL, as in a reference to the series of books it forms part of - The Oxford History of English Literature).
