Sauk City, Arkham House, 1946. First Edition. First Impression. An interesting copy of van Vogt's best known and perhaps best book. One of Arkham's early foray's into science fiction. Interesting because it has a few 'additions' to the book; a printed photo of van Vogt pasted for the front endpaper along with a gift inscription "For J.C. Brown \ with best wishes \ A.E. van Vogt". One assumes that it wasn't van Vogt who decorated the endpaper. Further to this no fewer than five reviews, catalogue descriptions etc. have been pasted to the pastedown and endpapers (recto AND verso!). So, interesting! The jacket is in decent shape, though has been taped to the inside top and bottom edges, and wrapped round to the flaps. This has transferred through somewhat to the outside. But, no real tears or wear. A little foxing to edges and prelims. Spine faded. Good only. Cover art / illustrations by Robert F. Hubbell [5685, Hyraxia Books].
