London, F.V. White & Co., 1897. First Edition. First Impression. Probable association copy. A lost race advanture, this copy presented with a postcard of the author inscribed by him: "To my friend Alfred Pearse \ William Le Queux." Alfred Pearse provided the illustrations for the book. It's not clear whether the postcard was presented to Pearse with the book, though it would be an odd choice of presentation otherwise. The book itself is very good, cloth a little mottled, spine tips and corners a little bumped. Internally, in decent shape with a couple of spots to the title page. Inscribed card has wear to the edges, soiling and one crease/tear horizontally. A rare book, with an interesting piece of associated ephemera. Cover art / illustrations by Alfred Pearse [5710, Hyraxia Books].
