Sauk City, Arkham House, 1950. First Edition. First Impression. Frances L. Penny's copy thence to George Locke "Ownership signature of Frances L. Perry date 11.1.1951. Holograph poems by Drake on endpapers and prelims but perry. No dust jacket. Very good, slight foxing. Many poems denoted on contents page with ticks. Perry was a member of the Society of the Inner Light, Dion Fortune's offshoot of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, in the 40s-50s. Of the six poems transcribed by Perry into the book, one "The Vision" is also printed there. The others, which I am sure were composed by Drake, are: 'Six Merry Farmers', 'Out', 'Revenant', 'The Mermaid' and, on the rear endpaper, 'Red Ghosts of Kentucky'. They were probably transcribed from magazine appearances, but it is possible that Drake may have sent or given copies to Perry." More recent research suggests that George was correct regarding the magazine appearances as the titles can be found in various places such as Weird Tales. [5779, Hyraxia Books].
