London, Gollancz, 1982. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. In what is a rare occurrence, this work of fantasy was included in Harold Bloom's 'Western Canon', one of only a handful of such books. The book also won the World Fantasy Award, and was nominated for the Hugo and Nebulas. It's one of those rare speculative works that makes it into the ranks of non-genre tastes, though it is firmly a work of fantasy. A highlight in the genre. This hardback edition issued simultaneously with the wraps edition. [Pringle, Modern Fantasy: The Hundred Best Novels, p211]. A near fine copy with a little edge wear to the jacket, and some bumping to the spine tips. Cover art by Pat Doyle [6618, Hyraxia Books].
