London, Collins, 1926. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A classic of the genre, and a rare book. It's not a novel that every reader of fantasy might be particularly au fait with but it's certainly one of the cornerstones and one of a handful of early 20th Century books that helped bring the genre to the Tolkien era. A true highlight for any collection of speculative fiction. Presented in the first issue binding of brown cloth. The book is near fine with some bumping to the spine tips and a little discolouration to the block edges. The jacket is present with a few short tears and a couple of chips to the corners and head of the spine, 20mm tear to rear fold, some loss to the head of the spine. Neat gift inscription to front endpaper. An excellent book. [Bleiler, p201; 100 Must-Read Fantasy Novels, Rennison & Andrews, p111] [6619, Hyraxia Books].
