New York, Viking, 1959. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good book in a good jacket. Jackson's horror masterpiece, and a solid cornerstone for a collection within the genre. "It was Shirley Jackson's achievement to write the great modern novel of supernatural horror" [Jones & Newman, 1998, p179]. The present copy has a good deal of wear to the jacket, primarily at the head of the spine but also to the lower spine tip and the top edges. A couple of short tears and nicks. The book itself is in decent shape with a little bumping to the spine tips, and a previous owner's sticker to the front endpaper (only 30mm x 10mm so fairly unobtrusive). Cover art by Paul Bacon [6973, Hyraxia Books].
