London, Raven Books / Random House, 1977. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Recently adapted for TV. The Sword of Shannara was Brooks's first novel and the first in the Shannara series. The series has evolved into an epic set of stories, with probably one of the highest word counts in the genre. This is the book that started it all. Drawing obvious influences from Tolkien, the book sold in the hundreds of thousands to mixed reviews. To the day the books still carry heavy criticism but their impact on the fantasy genre cannot be denied. The book is an important historical artefact and will remain as an important milestone in the history of fantasy. Remainder mark to bottom of the block, jacket edges a little rolled, spine tips bumped. Front flap creased. Illustrations by The Brother's Hilderbrandt [7315, Hyraxia Books].
