Sauk City, WI, Arkham House, 1949. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. The 'Final' collection of HPL's work, bringing together a odds and ends that hadn't previously been published. Derleth comments that the eponymous essay is the highlight. Other pieces of interest are a set of six stories by other writers to which HPL contributed in someway (mostly revisions). One story is by Sonia H. Greene whom he later married. Five further essays, some preparatory notes on The Shadows Over Innsmouth, Mountains of Madness and Shadow Out of Time. A dozen or so poems and a bunch of memoirs from the likes of Derleth, Leiner, Leiber and Vncent Starrett who wrote a piece especially for the present volume. The book is in excellent shape with a little softening to the spine tips and corners. The jacket is a little soiled, with some areas of wear to the corners and spine tips. One of ~3,000 copies.
