London, George Redway, 1884. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. The author's first book (well, excepting of course Eleusinia, of which only a couple of copies out of the 100 are known to exist). George Locke has optimistically posed the question as to whether a pencilled noted on the verso of the endpaper is the signature of Machen. Given that it's in pencil, and the book's authored under a pseudonym it seems unlikely. Very good. Vellum foxed, edges dusty, title page toned, otherwise excellent. [7811, Hyraxia Books].
