London, Sphere, 1984-1985. First Editions. First Impressions. Paperbacks. A very good set. Six volumes, complete. An important association copy. The author's first books. The books were first published in paperback. The first three likely published simultaneously (given the other two are mentioned respectively in each volume - exact dates not known), similarly the last three. Sphere published an omnibus of volumes one and two in hardback the same year [Jones & Newman, Another 100 Best Books, p306]. Volume two is inscribed by Barker to fellow Horror writer Lisa Tuttle. The inscription reads 'To Lisa, with Blood and Best Wishes, Easter Day 1984, Clive Barker'. Lisa was an established writer then, and the inscription is an early one. All in all an important copy of the Books of Blood. Eight of the stories have been adapted for the big screen (two of those were just used as part of the film), the most famous of which is Candyman. Books a touched rubbed, each with faded spines and toned blocks. [7837, Hyraxia Books].
