London, Jonathan Cape, 1970. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A near fine copy. First British edition, preceded by the US Knopf edition, Russian edition and of course the Japanese edition some 11 years earlier. An important work, and quite uncommon. Translated by E. Dale Saunders (as was the US edition). Involves melting ice-caps, amphibian humans and AI [Clute & Nicholls, p1]. Thought by some to be the first Japanese work of SF [SF Studies, v29, Nov 2002 - Bolton]. The book has a few signs of age, but is really an excellent copy. Cover art by Leigh Taylor [7903, Hyraxia Books].
