A very good copy. 105 of 112 copies of the large paper edition (the trade edition was published with a run of 20,000 copies. [Whatmore, p11l; McKay, p21] This copy being a presentation copy. The book contains a compliments slip from the publisher (Dated December, 1887) and a laid in sheet dated October 6th and signed by Haggard, M. L. Haggard (presumably Marianna Louisa, HRH's wife), C.J. Longman and H.A. Longman (publishers), Alice Copes and [???] Copes (unknown). The quarter-leather spine is heavily rubbed and a little chipped. Fore corners bumped and rubbed. Internally in good shape, save a little foxing on the title page from the gap created by the tipped in plate. Some pencil impressions to endpaper verso from a century's worth of pricing. Complete. [7942, Hyraxia Books].
