Jacket design by Gray, who was a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. The present copy is an uncorrected proof for the US edition. The US edition, published by Lippincott & Crowell in wraps precedes the UK Canongate cased edition. The current proof notes the publisher as Lippincott & Crowell (Harper & Row acquired Lippincott and Crowell, separately at the end of the 1970s, which is why some sources note the publisher as Harper).
