London, Country Life, 1938. First edition, first impression. . A very good copy. The only published edition and an early photobook. A key Brandt title and has most collectable. A good portion of the stock of this particular title was destroyed during a warehouse fire (I know that's the old yarn with many a rare book, but the facts bear this out in this particular case). Influenced perhaps by Brassai's Paris de Nuit, an early example of a photographer producing an emergent narrative through the careful selection of images; an early example of a photobook telling a tale. A fantastic book. Edges very lightly rubbed, small scuff to upper wrapper, some light repair to the spine. [9210, Hyraxia Books].
