London, J.A. Brook, 1878. First edition, first impression. Paperback. A very good copy. A rare collection of short supernatural pieces. Technically, I suppose a Penny Dreadful given the length, cost and subject matter. In remarkably good shape all things considered. Only one other copy located, being the copy at the BL. No copies found in commerce. The first issue. It appears, from the last page, that a second issue was intended, but given the BL's lack it may well have never come to fruition. 16pp. Comprising foud stories entitled, The Spectral Visitant, The Iron Cage, The Shrouded Spectra, and The Ghost in a Nightcap. All sounding suitably scary, I'm sure. In excellent shape really, some splitting to the spine, tear to rear, and owner's inscription(? - I only question this as I'm not sure why someone would mark ownership on a penny piece).
