Liver Heath, Bucks, Viscount Films, 1961. Manuscript. Unbound. A very good copy. The final draft dated 21/4/1961. Terry Nation is perhaps best known for his work on Doctor Who and Blake's 7. In 1962 he worked on the second Doctor Who serial, titled The Daleks, and is credited with their creation. Later, he created Davros. Prior to 1962 he had co-written a number of comedy scripts, but What a Whopper was his first solo credit. The film was released on the 17th of October 1961 and starred Sid James and Adam Faith, along with Clive Dunn and Spike Milligan, and the ill-fated Carole Lesley. Nation's script is a reworking of Jeremy Lloyd's original. The present copy is a working copy of the script. It is signed Lionel followed by Windsor (I think). The only link I can put together is that the script is that of Lionel Couch who was the art director for the film (and lots of Carry On films). That said, there are numerous script amendments and additions that wouldn't seem to be the domain of an art director. The ephemera includes call sheets, a copy of the censor's certificate, draft credit titles, unit list, continuity copy, an artist's list (which would work with the Lionel link), and storyboards copies (again, Lionel). Condition is very good. An interesting collection. [9586, Hyraxia Books].
