London, Bliss, Sands and Foster, 1895. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Uncommon. A Vernian scientific romance of a voyage to Mars in the rocket Sirius - predating Wells' War of the Worlds which features an Earth-Mars crossing in the reverse direction. The story includes aliens and a sort of early Princess-of-Mars Voline. A somewhat forgotten book, but likely deserving of more attention. Slight lean, some bumping and rubbing to the spine tips and edges. Tear to final page. 4pp ads. AEG. Illustrations by Arthur Layard [9704, Hyraxia Books].
