Robin Hobb is a fine writer. In our opinion at least, she is the paramount writer of modern fantasy. There is and has been a great deal of competition out there from the likes of Steven Erikson, George R.R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan, to name just four authors whose books I can see from where I am writing. These are all excellent story-tellers, but Hobb's stories carry a certain harmony that appeals on a deeper level. Hobb is a master story-teller, and as someone who puts down more books than he finishes, I don't give that badge lightly.
On top of that, she is a lovely person. Always friendly and personable, and a pleasure. If she's ever in your town doing a signing or talk, go and see her.
I heard it said the other day that Hobb is the female George R.R. Martin. Setting aside the daft notion that gender is be something upon which to judge literary merit, I'd like to posit that Martin is more beholden to Hobb.
Anyway, enough of that. Here you will find a selection of first editions, mostly signed and occasionally proofs and other interesting bits.
