London, Charles Baldwyn, 1824. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A good copy. The rare india paper issue, preceding what's commonly called the first issue. India Paper stated on the spine label. It's thought that the initial plan was to publish the book with plates on India paper, but that ultimately it wasn't, explaining why the box for this copy states proof. Ultimately, it seems to be simply the large paper issue (211mm x 130mm). All first issue points met. Spine is heavily worn but protected by the case. A little fragile overall, but in nice shape internally. Illustrations by George Cruickshank [9358, Hyraxia Books].
