London, J. & R. Tonson & S. Draper, & R. & J. Dodsley, 1756. Third Edition. First Impression. A rare book, the third Jarvis edition of one of the most important books published. Two volumes. xxxii, 90, , [vi], , 372; [xii] 398. 68 plates. Complete. Owner's plates to pastedowns (politician and High Sheriff of Yorkshire Ralph Creyke [1849-1908]). Very good condition, bindings both split at hinges, though still held mainly by strings but also by the calf. Spine tips heavily chipped and worn. A couple of leaves with chips / corners torn etc. But largely very presentable. Verso frontis foxed, lightly. One worm hole to volume one, the worm got through the prefaces, but only to page 14 of the text; a shame, it missed out on a classic. Contemporary full calf. [5670, Hyraxia Books].
