New York, Scribners, 1971. Hardback first edition and first impression. A very good copy. Jacket with a couple of short tears to the top edge, some edge wear elsewhere, some more wear to the top of the spine. A little tape to inside of jacket at head of spine. Book is neat with an owner's inscription to the front endpaper, and a couple of owner's blindstamps to half-title and one of the leaves midway through (owner's inscription is that of Perry Michael Smith, an author with Scribners at the time). Card signed by the author laid in loose. Locus award winner and Hugo and Nebula nominee, Lathe of Heaven is amongst Le Guin's finest works, not quite as well received as a Handful of Darkness, nor as important as The Dispossessed, nor does it have the lasting power of the Earthsea books. It does however remain one of her most collectable books, and is certainly well placed within the finest works of science fiction. An imaginitive piece, adapted for the screen and stage and translated into a dozen languages.
